Sustainability is one of our strategic priority areas and covers everything we do.
Construction has significant effects on the climate and the construction industry has a lot to achieve in terms of sustainability. With over 100 years of expertise in building the foundations for better living, our goal is to make sustainable housing and living easy for people, businesses and society. We develop and build sustainable living environments: functional homes, future-proof public and commercial buildings and infrastructure to support smooth mobility and green transition.
The Science Based Targets initiative has approved and validated the emission reduction targets set by YIT in June 2023.
YIT climate targets 2030 – Science Based Targets initiative
*The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
Towards carbon neutral construction
In addition to committing to the SBTi targets, YIT aims to be carbon neutral in its own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030. After reducing 90 % of Scope 1 and 2 emissions, the remaining emissions are planned to be offset with nature-based solutions that promote biodiversity.
Our material sustainability themes are defined through a materiality assessment in consultation with stakeholders. The selection of material themes takes into account the relevance of the theme to stakeholders and to us, as well as the specific characteristics of the construction industry. The selection of sustainability themes also recognises their link to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
All of those operating in the construction industry must work together in order to implement responsible subcontracting. We have made common guidelines for all construction sector operators, which help each one of us in identifying possible labor exploitation at work sites.
